Summary
A slubbing frame made by Howard and Bullough Ltd, Accrington, in 1926, and rebuilt by Dodds in 1950. This is the third machine to process the raw cotton. The machine takes the cans of drawn cotton slivers (strands) from the back through a set of drafting rollers, making the sliver finer, and adds in a slight twist for strength with the fly arms. The carriage at the front travels up and down to wind the cotton roving (thin strands) down onto a bobbin, and when full the bobbin is doffed (removed) from the machine.
Provenance
This slubbing frame was a gift from Mutual Mills in Heywood, Lancashire.
