A plaiting machine made by Wm Sutcliffe, Nelson, date unknown. This machine folds cloth into specific lengths, originally set to run in yards but now set to run in metres. It has a curved frame with wooden panelling across the top, which moves back and forth to lift the cloth from the back of the machine and fold it into a 'bolt' at the front.
