The lid lifts diagonally off on hinges and inside the lid (which is lined in dark blue velvet) there are two holders for levers held in place by wooden swivelling catches. The calculator itself has four dials, two of which are moveable by brass levers (with black wooden handles) which fit into plugs on either side of the calculator. The dials are labelled (from the inside going out) 'Reeds and picks percentages, Lengths, Counts, Widths and Ends, Values, Prices'. In the centre of the calcualtor appears 'Lord's Calculator Elliot Bros. London No 23'. The box locks and has a colomnar base, and a guide - pin on either side of the lid with corresponding holes on the base.
