Caption
Spencer Gore was co-found and first President of the Camden Town Group. It was so-called because they gathered at the studio of Walter Sickert in Camden. This group of artists was active from 1911 to around 1913. Gore had been a contemporary of Harold Gilman at the Slade School of Art, and with whom he had co-founded the Camden Group. Gilman’s work can also be found at Fenton House. This picture is typical of Gore’s later works, which shows greater influence of the Post-Impressionists, and in which he shows growing concern with pictorial construction and colour.
