Summary
Theorbo lute by Christophe Doring, 1694. Single treble string; remainder paired. Twelve courses in all. The maker's label reads "Christoph Doring/Me Vecit Cassel/Anno 1694". A second label shows that the instrument was repaired by Alec Hodsdon, London, in 1928. Large figured maple body, the soundhole carved in the form of three rosettes. Bridge missing. Neck and scrolled peg-box probably not original.
