Summary
Octagonal shaped box of Chinese Cantonese black and gold lacquer. The lid and sides intricately painted with miniature scenes of figures, trees and houses, surrounded by scroll and trellis work and key pattern borders. Inside are six black lacquer fitted boxes with lids painted in gold, containing beans, shells and mother-of-pearl counters, ten of which are elaborately carved. Also a set of five old Chinese counters. Also inside a set of ten fitted miniature trays, three painted with chinoiserie scenes, and seven painted with different court cards and numbers of the Diamond suit of cards. The box on four paw feet, each flanked by a pair of wing-like projections.
