Full description
Flintlock blunderbuss signed Perry, c1800. Probably William Perry, Birmingham (signed his guns London). Brass barrel of cannon form, formed in 2 stages, octagonal at the breech then round to the muzzle, the flared muzzle with moulded rings. The breech stamped with proof marks of the London Gunmakers Company, the top flat signed in script, LONDON. Retained to the stock by 2 transverse barrel pins. Wooden ramrod with iron worm and horn tip. Barrel length: 40.5cm. Muzzle diameter 28mm. Walnut three-quarter stock, the butt of hand-rail form. Plain brass furniture comprising; buttplate, scroll form sideplate, trigger guard, and 2 ramrod pipes. Flintlock side-lock of flat section, the plate with bevelled edges and engraved with a border line. Signed beneath the pan in script PERRY. The cock with sliding bolt safety. The lock retained to the stock by 2 sidenails. Overall length: 80.6cm

Marked in Lady Iveagh’s 1966 Inventory, p 45. Accepted by the Treasury in lieu of Estate Duty on the death of the 5th and the 6th Earl in 1984.
