Summary
'Plan of Clandon Park in the County of Surrey belonging to the Rt Hon George Lord Onslow, surveyed by John Willock. Nov 1776'. This estate plan shows the outline of Clandon Park house, the stable / carriage house, water mill, formal gardens, orange grove and other features within the Park, of which the circumference and area (146 acres) are stated. The parish church of St Peter and St Paul and part of West Clandon village are included, with pound and gallows (?). Tenants and neighbouring landowners are named. Some parts of the map are lightly ruled in pencil in grid squares, suggesting that this may be the surveyor's draft. There is evidence of two contemporary hands; one is John Willock's, the other which is overlaid is attributed to Lancelot 'Capability' Brown's assistant and Head Gardener at Hampton Court Palace Samuel Lapidge
