Summary
[Destroyed in the fire of 2015] Oil painting on canvas, General William Francis Bentinck Loftus (1784-1852), British School, c. 1848-99. A half-length portrait of a mature man, facing, head and gaze to slight proper right, balding, with greying hair and sideburns, wearing full dress and Military General Service Medal issued in 1848 for service in the Peninsular War with 38th (1st Staffordshire) Regiment of Foot, holding plumed hat in proper right hand. In a heavy giltwood frame.
