Summary
[Destroyed in the fire of 2015] George I parcel-gilt kneehole writing table in the manner of William Kent, the rectangular and tooled leather top with a lacquered brass border, and the front and sides carved with acanthus-leaf-faced corbels headed by lion masks ending in lion feet; the frieze centred by a lion mask and with a recessed cupboard and flanked by concealed cupboards at each side, the ends each with a drawer in the frieze, and with a panelled back also with matching corbels at the sides, the whole decorated in parcel-gilt, and including fret and rosette and ribbon mouldings.
Provenance
Written in a drawer - 'This William Kent writing table originally came from Wilton House, Salisbury, and was presented as a wedding present by Robert Henry, 12th Earl of Pembroke, to Philip Pusey who married Lady Emily Herbert, 2nd daughter of Henry George, 2nd Earl of Caernarvon, on Oct 4th 1822. Philip Pusey was born at Pusey Berks June 25th 1799.'
