Summary
Oil painting on canvas, 'Daisy', a Longhorn Cow in a Landscape, the Property of John Henry Whitmore-Jones of Chastleton by Thomas Woodward (Pershore 1801-Worcester 1852), centre bottom 'T W [in ligature] 1830'. A full-length profile facing to the right. On 20 December 1829, the artist asked John Whitmore Jones £10 for a 'Portrait of a cow' just under half what he charged at the same time for his portrait of Whitmore Jones's hunter (East Stairs). Cows, being a less 'elevated' subject, well rewarded. Relaid onto artist's board, the reverse revealing a painting by Alan Clutton Brock.
