Summary
PIKEMAN'S BACKPLATE; With a low neck and a broad flange at the waist. The main edges have plain inward turns, that on the flange with a narrow recessed border, the neck and arms bordered by double incised lines, pairs of which run down the centre and form a chevron at either side. It has been modified to simulate a harquebusier's backplate by cutting down the lower edges of the arm openings. At either shoulder is the first plate and leather of a replacement shoulder strap, with a pair of the rivet holes for the original attachement near the edge. At either side are rivet holes of the original hasp, now filled with flush rivets, and lower down the ends of the second replacement leather waist straps are attached by two rivets at either side of the waist, with a pair of rivet holes underneath for the first (probably working-life) replacement strap.
