Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Edward Gordon Douglas-Pennant, 1st Baron Penrhyn of Llandegai (1800-86) by Henry Tanworth Wells, RA (Marylebone 1828 - Kensington 1903), signed and dated 1869. A portrait, seated, full left to left; at a desk with plan of 'CAE[RNARVONSHIRE]'. Studio setting. Lord Penrhyn's youngest daughter Adela records: `The sittings were very tedious to my Father, in spite of his appreciation of the good will which had caused their infliction, and when my Mother could not accompany him he used often to take me with him, although I was only a child, to Mr Wells' studio to help to while away the time.' Presented by subscription to the Town Hall, Caernarfon, and subsequently given to the National Trust.
