The origin of this overmantel is unknown, but John Seely mounted it over the fireplace in Mottistone's Great Hall during his 1926 restoration of the house. It moved to its current location over the door to the kitchen after his second project on the house in 1954.
Provenance
Bequeathed by John Seely, 2nd Lord Mottistone (1899 - 1963) to the National Trust, with house, farms, woodland and most of the village.
