Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, George Windham (1762-1810), by George Engleheart (Kew 1750 – Blackheath 1839). 1786. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a man, turned slightly to the right, and looking to the right, dressed in a dark brown coat, pink and white waistcoat, white bow tie and shirt frill. Blue eyes, powdered hair, ruddy face modelled with firm contour lines and bold blue strokes, aged about 25. Sky background, lit from the left.
Provenance
Part of the Windham Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)
