Caption
The sitter was the daughter of the 1st Marquess of Bristol, a portrait of whom also hangs at Felbrigg. She married William Howe Windham (1802-54) in 1835. She is apparently painted as his widow, before her second marriage, in 1858, to the opera-singer’s son, Signor Giubilei.

An oil painting on canvas of Lady Sophia Elizabeth Caroline Hervey; Lady Sophia Windham (1811-1863) by British (English) School, circa 1855. A three-quarter-length portrait of a woman seated full face figure dressed in black with red shawl. There are flowers on the table to left. A companion to FEL/P/118. She was the daughter of the 1st Marquess of Bristol, married in 1835 to William Howe Windham. She is apparently painted as his widow before her second marriage, in 1858, to the opera-singer's son, Signor Giubilei.
Provenance
Part of the Windham Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)
