This painting was once thought to be by Robert Ladbrooke (1769-1842) who, along with John Crome (1768-1821), founded the Norwich Society of Artists in 1803. The subjects painted by the various artists affiliated to the Society were typically landscapes, coastal and marine scenes from around Norwich and Norfolk. Windmills were a common feature of the Norfolk landscape.
