Summary
8 day English striking longcase clock in oak case, by J. Bennett, Norwich, c.1780. 2 train, 4 pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack striking. White-painted break arch dial with gilt gesso decoration in arch and spandrels. Dial with roman hour numerals and arabic five minute figures. Second dial and calendar dial in dial centre, signed 'J. Bennet, Norwich'. Steel hands. Catgut pulley strings. Oak case with hood having scroll pediment with 3 brass or metal spire (ball and point) finials, 4 turned plain brass-capped column and glazed sides. Arch top trunk door. Small feet to plinth.
Provenance
Part of the Windham Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)
