Summary
8 day English longcase clock in oak case, by J. Bennett, Norwich, c.1790. 2 train, 5 pillar movement, with anchor escapement and rack striking. White-painted break arch dial with roman numerals. Painted gilt spandrels, and signed 'J. Bennet, Norwich' in gilt octagonal in arch. Seconds and calendar dial in plain dial centre. Steel hands. False plate on dial signed 'Walker and Hughes, Birmingham'. Oak case with break arch hood having scroll pediment and flanked by brass capped columns all surmounted by 3 eagle and ball finials. Arch top trunk door and small feet to plinth. Decorated on the surround by painting of a rose with foliage at each corner.
Provenance
Part of the Windham Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)
