Summary
A walnut and ebonised holly inlaid writing cabinet on chest or scripter, English, circa 1690 The moulded cornice and cushion frieze drawer above a fall inlaid with geometric circular designs. The fall enclosing a fitted interior of eleven drawers and six pigeon holes around a cupboard door which encloses a further three small drawers. The lower section with two short and two long drawers, raised on later bracket feet. This cabinet was possibly bought by Katherine Windham in 1690-1.
Provenance
Part of the Windham Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969).
