Full description
Flintlock military-style musketoon, English c1680, by Godfrey Tailor (active 1666 - 1700), London. He became Master of the London Gunmakers Company in 1690 & 1699, and was a Contractor to the Ordnance 1678 – 1701. The barrel is engraved with the ownership name MAJOR SYMON PARRY. The massive brass barrel is formed in 3 stages, octagonal at the breech, becoming 16 sided, then round to the muzzle; the flared muzzle formed with reinforcing rings. The breech formed with a raised flanged, and engraved with foliage and inscribed MAJOR SYMON PARRY. The breech is stamped with proof marks of the London Gunmakers Company and with the makers mark, GT under a star. Iron barrel tang. Retained to the stock by 2 barrel pins. Wooden ramrod (tip missing). Metal discoloured. Barrel length 78cm. Diameter at muzzle 35.5mm. Walnut full stock with flat butt comb, bulbous form to forestock and carved apron to tang. Brass furniture comprising; tacked-on butt plate, trigger guard (missing - tang only remaining), large flat ribbon side-plate, and 1 ramrod pipe. Scroll form trigger. Split to forestock and behond tang; pieces missing. The lock missing. The vacant recess in the stock indicates a flintlock with a curved lockplate. Overall length: 120cm.

Part of the Windham Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)
