A brass barrelled flintlock blunderbuss by Edward Bond (active 1754-90), London c1770.
Full description
Brass barrel of cannon form with flared muzzle and reinforcing ring. The breech stamped with London proof marks and a makers mark EB under a crown. Retained to the stock by 2 barrel pins. Wooden ramrod with brass tip. Barrel length 40cm. Diameter at muzzle 32.5mm. Walnut full stock with flat butt comb. Brass furniture comprising; tacked-on butt plate, trigger guard with blob-shaped finial, flat ribbon side-plate, and 1 ramrod pipe. Flintlock with plain flat plate stamped E. BOND.
Provenance
Part of the Windham Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)
