Summary
Watercolour on parchment, West Indian Little Black Monkey with Birds, Butterflies and Flowers by Sarah Lethieullier, Lady Fetherstonhaugh (1722-1788). Initialled and dated 1757. (From a set of five.) Carved gilt frame. A composition of flora and fauna specimens including a red-handed tamarin, a dead goldfinch and a sprig of fruiting cherry. The red-handed tamarin is copied from print by George Edwards (1694-1773) inscribed 'A Little Black Monkey brought from the West Indies by the Honorable Commodore Fitzroy LEE in the year 1747'.
