Summary
A late Victorian oak safe by Collier and Plucknett. The top is straight above a cavetto cornice carved with stylised flowers along the sides and the front. The sides have two large and one small panel of burr wood with ebonised lines and a marquetry strip along the bottom panel. The front of the item has bevelled sides and a door with two ebonised columns with palm leaf capitals supported by square pillars with palm leaf carvings. Between the pillars the top section is a bevelled mirror with gothic arch astragals above a carved leaf design with a heavy steel stirrup handle that has a twisted rope pattern and a circular backplate. The flower motif swings to reveal a keyhole. Below this panel are two marquetry panels. The whole safe sits on a deep plinth with satinwood and marquetry zigzag banding edging the top.
