Summary
Vase, two-handled of classical form. Hard paste porcelain, painted with a portrait of Francis Russell, 5th Duke of Bedford (1765-1802), after a portrait by John Hoppner (1758-1810). Painted by Jean-Baptiste-Joseph Duchesne (1770-1856), signed 'Duchesne'. On the reverse a ducal coronet above 'B' in script. Unmarked, possibly Dihl et Guérhard, Paris, France, around 1802-1803. Francis Russell was a friend of Sir Harry's Fetherstonhaugh (1754-1846) of Uppark.
