Summary
Oil painting on canvas (oval), George Abraham Gibbs (1848 - 1870), British (English) School, 1871. A half-length portrait, in a dark coat facing three quarters to his right. One of a pair with NT13556 of William Gibbs.

Purchased by the National Trust from the estate of the late George Richard Lawley Gibbs, 2nd Baron Wraxall (1928 – 2001) with the assistance of the NHMF, Art Fund and donations from members and supporters in 2002

Marks and inscriptions
Verso: At top of are two dirty white paper labels on either side of two top quarters of frame. These are printed in black ink1) MITCHELL / MEGMT MR / F88401. Verso: 2)On the other label, RH/SL and 871097 along the base of label. On the wooden frame holding the canvas is a white paper label identical to the one on the right with SL and 871094 on it. Written in pencil on wooden canvas stretcher is 'over fireplace /? room' and George Abraham Gibbs / d.1871.
