Summary
Part of sack backed gown with matching petticoat; Gown - Mid 18th century Chinese yellow silk painted with large fantastic flowering plant (silk width 22 in; blue selvedges) Bodice with poen front, plain flying robings, sack back with pair inverted double pleats, linen lining . Sleeves elbow length with small double scallop-pinked falling cuffs. Skirt open with scallop-pinked front edges, double pleats to side fronts, pocket slits with silk thread button to base and hanging cord inside, mantua fashion (missing on left) Altered from original mid 18th century sack back-neck lowered; possibly originally had pleated cuffs which may have been unpicked to provide new robings and small fan cuffs (pinking on cuffs different from skirt edges). 1730 - 1770 (circa)
