Summary
Cream silk waistcoat with multicoloured embroidery. Double breasted embroidered in chain stitched flower border and all-over sprig. Narrow standing collar, fronts lined with cream twilled silk, the back a single layer of coarsely woven linen. The waistcoat is of the short type with a completely straight lower edge, typical of the 1790s. Slit pockets worked with embroidered flowers. One silk and one linen tie at waistcoat back. Alterations; the back has been pleated to fit a smaller wearer and hooks and eyes have been stitched down centre front. 1790 (circa)
