Summary
An oak mule chest, English, mid-17th century. Later carved with the apocryphal date '1612'. The initials 'IB' possibly original. The hinged lid of three planks and above a front with pairs of 'C' scrolls and four panels each carved with a carnation and 'C' scrolls with applied moulding. All above a pair of drawers carved with lunettes and with later turned wooden handles. The ends of three panels. Raised on stile supports, the front stiles with chain carving.
