Summary
Waistcoat part; Front part - One of two front parts of a waistcoat made from a silk brocade of stylised leaves and flowers in gold, nettle grey, saxe blue with a coral pink silk tabby lining. The waistcoat is in the style of 1760's but the fabric has been dated by Natalie Rothstein as 1710-1713 and French - the long pattern being typical of the bizarre. Charles Wade writes 'Waistcoat. Brocade. Silver blue gold silk. Designed by Anna Maria Garthwaite. 1703. Probably made up at a later date'. Bought from Phillips of Hitchin for £2.5.0d. Unlikely to have been Anna Maria Garthwaite as she was not working in London until the 1720's.
