Summary
Pair of breeches made from a cream silk rib with a selvedge of striped brown/cream and fustian lining (cotton inside the flap). They are loosely cut with a small fall. There is a wide buttoned frogmouth pocket either side and 2 fob pockets. There is a back opening with 2 pairs of eyelet holes, knee bands opening at the knee. They are fastened with flat self-covered buttons - 2 on the waistband for the fall, 3 centre front on the waistband with worked buttonholes, small buttons on each main pocket and 5 at each knee (2 missing). The flap of the knee band tucks through a buttonhole. There are contemporary enlargements. The breeches have been lengthened at the back below the waist and there is a wide insertion of cotton fabric into the back seam (pinked edge). The front of the pockets are patched with a piece taken from the back of the waistband. (male)
