Summary
Breeches - Part of a coatee of red napped wool with yellow facings and cuff and white turn backs, with cream silk twill lining to bodice and sleeves and wool lining to skirts. Decorated with gold lace loops on front, collar, cuffs and pocket flaps fastening with 34 gilt buttons marked 'Firmin and Sons Ltd, Strand London'. On the front, 'GR' surmounted by queens crown. Probably mid 19th c coat altered and embellished for theatre. The waistcoat is of white napped wool fastening with 11 buttons the same as the coatee, both coat and waistcoat are marked with 'L'. Waistcoat also marked with 'Dorrell'. The breeches are of white napped wool, fastening with 13 metal buttons 'L and H Nathan, London' same as SNO 1994 1-2. Breeches marked 'I 33 LZ'. (male) (theatrical) Wade Catalogue number 43 "Breeches, white cloth. 1 good gilt knee buckle." Bought from F.W. Phillips for £2.5.0 (with coat and waistcoat)
