Summary
Child's cap - Made from purple silk with metal weft in the ground and brocaded with sprays of flowers in pinks, blues, creams, browns and metal thread. A French fabric of the 1760's. It is line with coarse napped linen. The edges are bound with claret pink silk ribbon and the edges and seams are overlaid with heavy cream silk and silver thread braid. There is a metal thread drawstring inside the centre back. Similar to SNO.TC.1713. The fabric could also possibly be 'ornament d'eglise' - the third quarter of the 18th century - see note on SNO.TC.1389. Northern European. (child)
