Summary
Boy's jacket - Part of an early 19th century (1820 - 1830) boy's jacket and pair of breeches of Holland(medium-weight, plain weave cloth made from linen or cotton yarn, it has a finish of size and oil applied to stiffen it). The Jacket, Lining - Back and sleeves unbleached cotton, the rest self-lioned. Front edges interlined. Shoulder and collar padded. Cut - Tailless jacket cut straight just below waist level. Open neckline with narrow stepped rolled collar. Front cut straight with single breasted buttoned closure. 2 horizontal welted pockets. Back has centre seam and narrow panel at side curving slightly in to the centre. Long shaped sleeves, gathered at head, with fastening cuff. Pocket inside left front. Fastenings - Small, flat, self covered, buttons. Centre-front, 1 on each cuff. Label - 'W' stitched in red thread inside neck. The Breeches , Lining - faced with linen. Cut - Long bodied. Small fall. Deep waistband, narrowing towards back. Back vent and puff. Fob pocket and right hand side. Band and opening at knee. Fastenings - 2 buttons centre-front bearer. 2 on fall. 1 each side back and front from braces (each has vertical buttonhole beneath strap and 2 buttons across centre-back vent ( 1 bean, 1 linen - later addition). 3 smaller buttons at each knee. Cream silk ties. Metal button at back of each knee band - later additions. (male/child)
