Summary
Court coat - Part of a court coat and waistcoat set. Sable brown corded silk striped with silvery gray with cuffs of cream ribbed silk. Lined with cream twilled silk with plain silk in sleeves. Close fitting cut . Knee length. Curved front line. Edge to edge with back vent. Triple pleats at side vents partially stitched. Stepped stand up collar. Narrow fitted sleeves with deep open cuffs. Pockets each side with deep scalloped cuff and three false buttons. Inner flap of lining fabric for lining. Trimmed extensively with embroidered flowers and leaves in multi coloured silk, silk threads, sequins and paste jewels. Embroidered strip applied to sleeves and back. Whole surface scattered with sequins many now missing. Three false buttons on cuff. Hip buttons. Fastened with ten large buttons with three buttonholes above waist. buttons with silver thread, silver pastes and sequins. The applied strips of embroidery were possibly added for extra decoration.
