Summary
Dress; Open robe - Terracotta silk damask open robe with meandering flowers, leaves and bunches of flowers tied with ribbon. Late 18th century. Sleeves lined with cotton. Hem faced with green silk. Bodice closed front, fourreau back. Sleeve - no fullness at head, wide, straight, elbow length, shaped at elbow. Skirt 5 widths and 2 strips, cut in one with centre back section of bodice, the rest pleated onto the bodice to side front. 2 pocket slits. No trimmings. Strip of fabric tacked in a bunch above each below. Fastenings 6 metal bars (not original) on bodice front. Has been remodelled. The bodice and sleeves much altered. Made to fit a larger woman. Probably fancy dress 19th century. (female) Wade Catalogue number E.14 "Dress of silk, rich red colour, figured.
