Summary
Dress; Closed robe - Cotton with a woven stripe, block printed and pencilled with trailing stems, flowers and leaves in madder red, yellow, blue. Some yellow overprinted with blue to give green. Black outlines. 3 blue threads in selvedge. Bodice and sleeves lined with bleached linen. Bodice - high, straight waist. High neck with self frill. Front gathered with drawstring at neck and waist. Centre-front opening. Underarm seam. Fronts extend over shoulders to diagonal seam from neck to armhole. Curved seams side back. Sleeves set deep into back. 2 seams. Curved, narrow to wrist. Button opening at wrist. Narrow self-cuff. Skirt 5 widths gathered to apron front. Pleated to back bodice. Slightly trained. Back pieces of bodice made up with lining. Inner bodice joined to back lining to overlap across bust. No trimmings. Self covered buttons at each wrist. Evidence of pinning on the bodice and underbodice.
