Summary
Dress; Polonaise - Sulphur yellow silk taffeta, blue stripe in selvedge. Bodice and sleeves lined with bleached linen. Bodice closed, fitted, low wide neckline. Curved lappets below waist. Fourreau back pieced. Sleeves pleated at head, elbow length, slanted at bottom for elbow, with extra notch cut inside arm. Skirt about 5 widths, pieced. Joined to bodice from side front to near centre back with fine knife pleats, stem stitched inside. Trimmed with 2 channels of 9 cord loops and white cotton tape for polonaise. Neck edged with pleated and pinked self fabric. Evidence of alteration on bodice and skirt. Cf. Nancy Bradfield 'Costume in Detail' pp. 49-50. (female)
