Summary
Dress; Open robe - Primose silk with 40 mm wide cream stripe. Self patterned meandering floral design. Bodice and sleeves pieced with 5 different weights of bleached linen. Skirt lined with cream silk. Fitted bodice with waistline slanting down to centre back and centre front lappets. Centre front opening with robings added. Back pleating, narrowing to waist, stitched down to bodice lining and falling free down skirt. Narrow elbow length sleeves, shaped round elbow. Small cuff fitted with 3 tucks into elbow. Kidney shaped lead weight in one sleeve. Skirt back cut in one with bodice. Attached to bodice with small, regular pleating. 2 pocket slits. Robings and cuffs edged narrow, cream silk wavy braid. Double flounces at cuff of machine-woven spotted silk gauze with machine woven silk gauze with hand-run embroidery. Evidence of pinning on bodice front. Linen tapes 160 mm long hanging down inside lappets. Silk has been remodelled, possibly from a sack back. cf Nancy Bradfield 'Costume in Detail' p.47-48 (female)
