Summary
Dress; Sack back dress - Made of petrol blue silk damask. 540mm (21 in) wide. Very large scale florid floral design picked out with ivory. Skirt lined with beech brown linen/silk mixture. Interlinings of heavy unbleached linen. Bodice has lining of soft, unbleached linen, open and laced at back. Sleeves lined with fine quality linen loosely with red streaked linen which attaches to brown skirt lining - both later additions to previously unlined dress. Bodice front closes edge-to-edge. Low, rounded front neckline. Short, narrow sleeves. Pocket slits. Trimmed with ruched Cambridge blue ribbon round neck and sleeve ends. Fastens with 16 round brass hooks and loops on bodice front and 10 flat brass loops sewn over hooks. The lining is a later addition - at the same time back pleats slightly re-arranged.
