Summary
Pair of brass weighing scales marked at one end of balance beam 'W and T Avery, Birmingham', at other end 'Patent Agate Balance'. Central brass column (turned) supporting balancing beam. Brass bar to one side suspended by a hook and shallow brass plate; the other with three chains attached to a heavy brass pan, the whole set upon polished oak base. Also, set of 5 circular iron weights - 1/4 oz., 1/2 oz. stamped 'Avery' and numbers on base; 1oz., 2oz. stamped 'W. & T. Avery' and numbers on base; 1lb. 'In the window is a brass beamscale balance by William and Thomas Avery, Soho Foundry, Birmingham, scale makers from c. 1820.' (M Jessup).
