Summary
Telescope. English c.1750. Two drawer. Red ray skin and green vellum on cardboard tubes. Brass ferrules and fittings. Maker - Mann and Ayscough, London, embossed in gold on centre tube. Sliding covers over lens both ends (similar to Culpeper microscope). In notebook no.2, page 25 (1340945.2) Charles Wade refers to: 'Admiral 83. Early Telescope by MANN and AYSCOUGH. LOND. of Red shargreen and green parchment. brass rings. 3 slides'. Includes sketch with dimensions.
