Summary
Backstaff (Davis Quadrant). Lignum vitae and boxwood. Two engraved scales, one on each arc. Engraved nonius on scale. Two vanes missing, one present. Inscribed on a wooden inset: 'IF Thos. Dutch Jany 20, 1746'. English. In notebook no.2, page 9 (1340945.2) Charles Wade refers to: 'Admiral 26. Davis Quadrant 1746. 'Made of Lignum Vitae and Boxwood. Arcs for scales. Inscribed 'TF Thos. Dutch Jany 20, 1746'.' Includes sketch with dimensions. See note for description of use by CPW.
