Summary
Black and white landscape photograph on a postcard of three actors seated at a table in an inn, the middle one (H.B. Irving) dressed in a coat and top hat his arms around the shoulders of the other two. Printed below, "Mr. H. B. Irving as 'Dubosc' in 'The Lyons Mail''" '273.N. Beagles Postcards' and 'Copyright Ellis & Walery'. On reverse, printed J. Beagles & Co., Ltd., Printers & Publishers'. H.B. Irving was the son of Sir Henry Irving. "The Lyons Mail" was a play written by Charles Reade in 1854 and originally called "The Courier of Lyons". It was rewritten in 1877 for Sir Henry Irving and revived by his son after Sir Henry's death. This photograph is probably from the performance at the opening of the Kings Theatre, Southsea, 30th September 1907.
