Summary
Black and white portrait photograph on a postcard of two actors, one dressed in a long coat, top hat and boots, cane under one arm sitting on a table; the other dressed in skirt, blouse and hat, kneeling in supplication. Printed below, "Mr. H. B. Irving & Miss Dorothea Baird in 'The Lyons Mail'"; '747 E. Beagles Postcards' and 'Copyright Ellis & Walery'. On reverse, printed J. Beagles & Co., Ltd., Printers & Publishers'. H.B. Irving was the son of Sir Henry Irving, and was married to Dorothea Baird. "The Lyons Mail" was a play written by Charles Reade in 1854 and originally called "The Courier of Lyons". It was rewritten in 1877 for Sir Henry Irving and revived by his son after Sir Henry's death. This photograph is probably from the performance at the opening of the Kings Theatre, Southsea, 30th September 1907.
