Summary
Dital Harp, Light, London, c.1821. Marked 'Light, Patent no. 270, Foley Place, London'. 19 strings. Ebonised and gilt. Gilt plinth and rose. Press stops - 'Ditals' - at rear of neck, from which the instrument takes its name. Tuning pegs on rear of neck. Pale wood sounding board with gold bands around edges. String holder angled across sounding board. Harp column has gold decoration. Curved back of 6 panels with 2 elongated holes. In notebook no.4, page 3 (1340945.4) Charles Wade refers to: 'Music Room 4. Harp Lute with an oval gilded base also by Ed. Light but considerably later.' [than 1335348] 'Bought from S. Hagger, 12 St Stephens Lane, Ipswich, 28th December 1931' (M. Jessup).
