Summary
Carriage lamp - One of a pair of black painted metal carriage lanterns with pierced cone chimney, two glazed panels and two brass reflectors. Brass plaque inside on the candle holder with Royal Coat of Arms, reading: 'Manufactured by Baynes Birch 66 Fetter Lane London'. Plaque repeated as stamp above front glazing. This one has the larger chimney and hanging handle. The handle beneath sits in a bracket attached to the wall. Converted to electricity. In notebook no.5, page 94 (1340945.5) Charles Wade refers to: 'Large garret no.55 pair of chaise lamps, very early form to burn colza oil.' Includes sketch with dimensions.
