Summary
Vertical ladies spinning wheel by R(obert) Webster in Shrewsbury England in 1791 (approx). Mahogany frame and table. Wheel rim lead with cast iron petals within. Mahogany finish. A unique wheel attributable to R Webster of Salop although sadly altered. Brass plaque on table top stamped on three sides 'INVENTOR'(left), 'R.WEBSTER' (centre) and 'SALOP (right). On the back is a metal plaque with a crown and inscription 'HONI SOI QUI MAL Y PENSE' 'DIEU ET MON DROIT'. In 1791 Webster gave three wheels to Queen Charlotte of Windsor. Mahogany framework is ok but there is some veneer missing. Brass mechanism on table top has been altered and no longer functions as originally intended. The drive connection from the wheel to the mechanism on the table top has been altered and no longer functions as originally intended.
