Summary
An oak canopied bed, Dutch, circa 1700. The canopy with moulded cornice and pierced scroll-carved frieze raised on column supports, both the foot-board and head-board have three fielded panels, the foot-board incorporates a lidded compartment, the head-board has shaped sides and a cupboard with sliding doors later carved 'Anno 1825', with deep side rails and stile feet. Now hung with curtains from inside cornice. In notebook no.3, page 10 (1340945.3) Charles Wade refers to: 'Grey 41. Oak Canopy Bed. The head - plain fielded panels having overhanging cupd. with sliding panels, high paneled foot with a Box fitted on top, heavy moulded side rails - pierced rails to top. Supported by two turned columns, dated 1825 but probably early 18th Cent. Flemish. Hangings of Deep Lavender.'
