Summary
Japanese matchlock gun with octagonal barrel in very good condition. The barrel is signed Sesshu no ju Shibatsuji Sozayemon saku (made by Shibatsuji of Settsu Province, Osaka). 18th-19th century. Decorated over entire length with inlaid copper and brass bamboo and chrysanthemums and with the Mikado Mon in silver. Plain wodden fullstock with short butt, inlaid with brass panels and rosettes. Brass stud trigger and trigger guard. Ramrod missing. Brass matchlock with external mainspring. (Information provided by Brian Godwin, NT gun advisor 29.06.1996). Previously displayed in Green Room.
